Appearance: Being an Orkeht Mantrin, Baika’s prime color is the common chestnut brown for her race, with her unique pattern of dark stripes covering her lower neck, back, hips and tail. Her beak, neck, chest and inside of the ears are a lighter almond brown. Her large ears are characteristic for her Orkeht race and also sport the common darker tips. The claws of both her hands and feet are dark brown and of average length and sharpness. Her eyes are characteristic for her race, a startling stormy gray. Like every member of her race, she has the darker rings around her eyes to help reduce the intensity of the sun’s glare.

Baika’s build is muscular and compact due to her shorter limbs but much of her strength and weight sits in her legs. Her tail is longer than average for her race, its tip capable of touching the ground and capable of quick lashes. Her teeth are mostly flat, with near absent canines, a result of her race’s focus on gathering food from plants and trees, although they do eat fish and meat like other races when available. She loves to work out and her lean muscles are the result of occasional training, resulting in good endurance. The tattoo on her left upper arm resembles a tree native to the area on Solbrecht where she grew up, marking her as a member of an exclusive society in which she resided practically her whole life up till now. What little scars she bears on various spots of her body are mostly the result of playing with friends and relatives of the community as she grew up.

Personality: As she is used to having lots of friends and relatives to play with when she was young and never rarely knew true solitude, Baika loves company, socializing and long conversations. However, she knew that if she wanted to join the Imperial Guard that she had to adapt to a different lifestyle. This was pretty tough for her especially during her first year on the Academy but she did well and eventually learned to work together with others and survive alone if the situation depended on it. It was also there on the academy where she developed her unexpected talent for handling any kind of firearm and graduate in the top of her class on this subject.

As expected, her natural curiosity got her into her current position as science officer but it was this same curiosity that got her in trouble more than once in her home community when she was just a child. It was as if secretly doing things she wasn’t allowed to do, very often with others, was her favorite pastime. However, it was her courage and amazing resourcefulness that often helped her to crawl out of perilous situations just in the nick of time. Her instructors at the Academy were going to remember her name for a long time to come as well.

One of her more unusual qualities and one of her pastimes too is surprisingly cooking. Gathering food, knowing which plants, fruits, nuts and seeds were edible and how to prepare them was considered a basic and imperative skill in her home community, a remnant from her race’s tribe-like lifestyle of which many traditions and customs were carried on to their more modern way of life. She’s good at it too and she’s very much used to cooking for others as well.

Background: The life Baika used to live in the subtropical regions of southern Solbrecht before joining the Guard was very different from other modernized members of her kind. Her closed community was equipped with all conveniences of modern life but was very much reminiscent of the tribes her race originated from. Essentially it was a kind of domed area in the forest, close to the edge of a regular city in which many Orkeht families, including hers shared the same roof. Houses were scattered all over the area, built even against the rocky outcroppings that could reach to over a dozen meters high. Within this dome, the climate is carefully regulated to be at a constant comfortable level throughout the year.

The domed community is the ultimate modern example of Orkehts sticking to themselves. Within their miniature society they had their own set of rules, just like in the tribes. They also had their own ways of punishment for whoever broke these rules. Other than that they led a very traditional way of life. They carried out certain rituals specific for their race’s subculture and usually had little contact with outsiders.

They were peaceful however, living in complete harmony with nature and the rules of Baika’s particular community were in fact very open toward outsiders as well as the other way around. People from the nearby city were allowed to visit and conduct trade and members of the community were allowed to go to the city to get things if needed and go wherever they wanted. They always came back to their carefree lives anyway. Therefore, Baika encountered no opposition from anyone, not even her parents when she decided to leave her secluded life for the Imperial Guard.
This girl comes from a closed community with a very unique lifestyle.

It didn't prevent her from longing for a trip to outer space though.
