Appearance: Although Thylun is supposed to be a Sogowan, he is the perfect example to dictate that albinism is a rare trait that also occurs in Mantrins. His skin is very pale, completely without so much as a trace of the medium brown color of his race. It means he also lacks the usual two tone color pattern. Only his claws seem to have a kind of cream-like color but It depends on the illumination and it is primarily caused by the difference in material. As eye problems are common in albino’s, Thylun is no exception. Born blind in one eye, the left eye is characteristic red while the other was replaced by an artificial one when he was old enough to undergo treatment but it was engineered to be the same color to form a matching pair.

Despite the genetic defect that robbed his body of its natural color, Thylun is still an average Sogowan Mantrin in every other way. He has a healthy dose of muscle and an impressive natural strength, even more improved by his training. His tail is fairly long and seems more flexible due to its lesser thickness. The ears are large and nicely rounded but with a prominent tip. The length of his beak and the sharpness and length of the teeth are nothing out of the ordinary. Thylun’s bionic eye however equipped him with certain enhanced abilities that natural eyes lack, such as enhanced sight in both normal and reduced lighting conditions, the ability to see beyond the visible spectrum and zooming capabilities. This gave him an unnatural edge on the battlefield and a nice overall benefit. His skin is a different story as the lack of pigment introduced numerous vulnerabilities. Regular skin treatments keep problems to a minimum though.

Personality: It isn’t hard to guess that anxiety and social problems were part of Thylun’s past but fortunately they are mostly the past. Although he definitely attracts some looks wherever he goes, Thylun accepted a long time ago that he is different and he has learned to live with it. The circle of friends he did manage to build up initially were the first ones to do so as well, liking him for his unusual condition and helping him to deal with it. He has known periods of bullying but he was quick to fight back too, sometimes with less than pretty results.

Like many of his kind Thylun discovered his natural talent for everything that had something to do with fighting and coming out on top. He joined a martial arts training class at a very young age and fought in numerous championships with success, his appearance as well as his victories helping him to gather fame. Thylun knew he could’ve become a master, a teacher of others with the same talent but his dream was to join one of the ships of the Imperial Guard so next to practicing martial arts he started battle training. Within a short period, he had gathered the knowledge and skill to handle a variety of modern weapons as well and was ready to enlist.

Another thing Thylun enjoys, first as part of his martial arts training, later as a means to calm his mind is meditation, sometimes going to the heart of the forest to be away from the routine of modern life. In the beginning he used to do this alone. Later he also managed to encourage others to do the same, sometimes even building a camping trip around it.

Background: Despite having difficulty early in life, being born with reduced eyesight, skin problems caused by albinism and social anxiety problems when he was little, Thylun received all the care he needed. His parents and family were loving and could afford the needed medical care as well as pay for the costly operation that replaced his blind eye with an advanced implant that is, in many ways, better than his remaining organic eye.

Thylun considers some of the best moments of his life the period of his martial arts and combat training and the great time he and his fellow practitioners had on those mediation trips. It often took them deep into the forest and at one time during their trip that took them through a new area they ran into a tribe of Sogowan Mantrins. Fortunately, this tribe was peaceful like many but the moment they spotted Thylun they considered him a God and started to revere him as such. When Thylun and his friends finally managed to convince them he was no such thing, hard because of the primitive dialect they spoke, they asked them to stay with them for as long as they liked and because of that incredible hospitality it wasn’t a one-time only visit.

Those trips into the forest also sparked something else inside Thylun that he hadn’t really felt up till then. A sense of adventure. Looking up at the stars at night, with them and the two moons of his planet the only sources of light, shining brightly into the far distance, knowing that visiting them would be as easy as hopping onto the next starship. So that’s what he did eventually, a difficult decision not always fully understood by those around him but supported nonetheless by family and friends.
Who knew that albinism is a trait that also occurs in Mantrins?

It means that this guy had some problems to deal with, especially in his past but he still turned out all right.
